Former Polish goalkeeper Jan Tomaszewski in Szczesny claims
Tomaszewski told Polish newspaper Przeglad:
In January I spoke to [Poland manager] Adam Nawalka and he said that Arsene Wenger had told him that if Szczesny worked hard in training he would play again soon. It turned out that he didn’t tell the truth. I’m sure that when Szczesny said that he was going to stay at Arsenal, he didn’t know that Cech was going to come because Wenger didn’t tell him about his plans. Szczesny should leave, because it will be waste of time for him, if he stays.
On Szczesny potentially losing his place for the national team:
Wojciech must be devastated. This [Petr Cech transfer] is a big problem also for the Polish national team. For me Wojciech is still Poland’s number one, world class goalkeeper but after Cech’s transfer he has no chance to play at Arsenal and for Poland. It could be end of his career in national team.
Horseshit. Wenger didn't make Chesney smoke a fag behind the managers back. He only has himself to blame.
He's just too young. Unless you're a prodigy (Courtois) there's no way that you're going to be a no.1 keeper.
Wenger wanted to do away with all the hassle by buying Cech. He's younger than David Seaman was during the 97-98 double season and he's pretty much won it all. He's a great buy.

I feel Szczesny's stars are just poor. He has shown lot promise and potential. Remember the defense was poor altogether with he was between the stick. It was only after leCoq came back the situation of the defenders improved. If we switch the times when Ospina and Szczesny played later would have come on top.
Anyways Cech is better than Szczesny at the moment.

To the club, Szczesny is 1. home-grown (at least under current system, yes), 2. still young (could have 10+ years in his career); If he is willing to stay to play as backup and cup keeper, I see no point of selling him.
To the player, not sure if that's PR, but if it's truthful, Szczesny wrote "Delighted to have a chance to learn from one of the best GK's in the world!" in welcoming Cech to the club, i.e. he is okay with staying, to learn and compete with Cech.
And somehow, he has already lost his starting in Poland national team to Fabianski anyway. With Lukasz being consistent and stable, leaving Arsenal for another team doesn't mean he could snatch the Poland no.1 role back so soon.
