International Break a Blessing For Arsenal

Posted by Gunner about 7 years ago · 9 replies

Because international teams need time to play their friendlies and World Cup qualifiers, we have international breaks during the season. Nothing happens at the clubs which gets boring but has a great benefit for us

We have five players out that are close to getting back to full fitness. The break actually bought us time to let them recover so we can have them either on the bench or in the Starting XI instead of missing that key player for a game. Ex: Koscielny, Ozil, Welbeck, and Chambers.

So what do you guys think about the break?

As an American, the international break ignores me a bit, because MLS teams don't get time off, meaning my Atlanta United were without some of our best players this past Tuesday, leading to a 3-2 loss to one of the worst teams in the league. This wouldn't be a problem if the MLS got time off from games during international breaks, but as of now, we don't.

As an American as well, the MLS is terrible. They are so terrible that not a lot of players play during international break so they just want to play on despite the way you feel about it. If it had a lot of players that play during the international break like the BPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, and even Seria A, then maybe they would consider taking up on the offer.

I do agree that it is unfair for big teams or any team that have great players that play for their national team. Most of the MLS players don't get called up because they are bad and/or they are old like Pirlo and David Villa. Therefore, they don't want to hold most of the teams up with most of the teams aren't going to lose anyone.

If they had leagues like the way England has the BPL and the Championship, all the bad teams who hardly lose a player to international break doesn't get lucky to play against the reserves of a great team who lost their best players to international break.

Also, it is not going to kill us to allow a week off for the international break. They are still going to get to play the games. But seeing how this season already started, they should start scheduling the next season with the international break so MLS teams don't get affected by it.

Yeah, I am fully aware that the MLS is not the best league in the world. I think scheduling the international breaks into the season is the right move, even if most teams don't have international players.

International break just got worse after Shkodran Mustafi is out for 3 MONTHS with an injury.

And there goes the chance for Holding or Chambers to get a place in the team...

What do you mean? Mustafi's absence means Holding or Chambers gets a go to the starting XI.

Eh...what?
