Fan allegedly films Wenger/Gazidis/Bould/Primorac meeting in secret

Posted by Ix Techau over 9 years ago · 13 replies

Apparently a fan in Singapore managed to transcribe a meeting that allegedly happened between Wenger, Gazidis, Bould, Lewin and Primorac today or yesterday. He posted this on a forum along with a blurry photo, so there is no way of confirming this at all, but I found the contents interesting nonetheless:

They have left. Nothing interesting at all. They talked very very little about transfers at all. They spent the entire 45 minutes talking about what happened over the past 3 days and analyzing every player's performance in training and also the match. I will try to summarise the important bits or any other that I can remember. It was quite difficult sometimes to understand because they used personal names for the players.

Here's what the poster alleged was said (paraphrasing to make it more readable):

  • Bould was impressed with Iwobi, but Primorac disagreed - he thinks Iwobi is not suited to playing on the wings and his one-footedness makes him very predictable to defend against. Wenger added that Iwobi is better centrally but can be effective on the wings when you analyse his movement using their data prediction and stats analysis.
  • Lewin mentioned Wilshere complained about discomfort after the match but on further checks was okay.
  • Lewin said Zelalem is struggling with fitness and can't last 90 minutes yet.
  • Bould said Gabriel is ready for the first team and Wenger agreed. "Very impressive in his anticipation," said Wenger. Primorac added that he clocked good times in the sprint training earlier.
  • Wenger said Toral and Crowley might need to find a loan deal this summer. "Yep, will do," said Gazidis.
  • [Poster can't remember who said] Willock has no future here for now.
  • They talked about Coquelin's performance and training progress for a great deal. Basically they agreed he is the first choice for midfield. "I will tell them to hold on for now," said Gazidis.
  • Giroud fitness not up to standards yet according to data. Primorac advised Wenger to not give him the full match for Saturday.
  • Wenger asked Gazidis about someone named Alex. "Yep, he's still in Berlin. It will continue. Do we still go on the second one?" answered Gazidis. "As long as it has met the requirements we have previously agreed on," said Wenger. "They are not easy," said Gazidis. "We have time," said Wenger.
  • Primorac said Akers told him the first training kits have been sent back to London first, along with the other items that is needed for next weekend.
  • Gazidis then talked about some marketing and commercial stuff which was pretty boring.
  • Wenger then mentioned that some players need more close monitoring and is going out of schedule. "I will tell Lawrence to settle this. He knows about it already," Primorac said.

Poster then finished with:

The rest is all about flight schedule, timings, itinerary, fitness, logistics and upcoming programmes which Wenger kept emphasizing to Boro to ask Olivier to inform the players.

The tread was later deleted.

Wenger asked Gazidis about someone named Alex. "Yep, he's still in Berlin. It will continue. Do we still go on the second one?" answered Gazidis. "As long as it has met the requirements we have previously agreed on," said Wenger. "They are not easy," said Gazidis. "We have time," said Wenger.

This is the most intriguing quote.

Trying to figure out this bit though if they're talking about scouts...

If it's a scout they're talking about, I assume they mean:

"Yep, [the scout is] still in Berlin. [His assessment] will continue. Do we still go on the second [option we have identified in case the first one doesn't come through]?"
"As long as [that player meets all] the requirements we have previously agreed on"
"[The selling club] are not [making this easy, they want more money than we're willing to spend]"
"We have time, [I'm Arsene Wenger, bitch]"

I call bull crap. A person would have to be pretty dam close to over hear a conversation like this, and I would imagine that there would be security on the door/in the area of a supposed meeting? Also where would a meeting like this take place? Just in the reception of the hotel? Unlikely.

I'm always sceptical about stuff like this!

I'm also sceptical, but if true it's not that weird talking about this stuff in a hotel lobby. They haven't actually revealed anything. No names, nothing overly negative.

It was said on the gunners subReddit post that the op was a reliable member of the subReddit and that he had been posting for years. They seem to believe him

From the Gunners Subreddit:

"Seems he's made sixteen and a half thousand posts in the five years he's been a member at a rate of just over 9 a day. A lot of the members replying to him all call him 'Clarence' (would suggest a communal familiarity), and seem genuinely chuffed/excited. And nobody seems to be calling him out as a bullshit merchant. (as yet) I'd say most likely a legit post, possibly casually exaggerated for dramatic effect. If they care about their continued credibility in their forum, half as much as the average redditor cares about his/her karma... It's odds on accurate. :) I'll buy it."

From the Gunners Subreddit:

I still suspect there is something fishy going on, but it's not completely implausible. Again, they didn't actually reveal anything sensitive. Transcript looks like a casual meeting to just bring each other up to speed. No names mentioned, nothing mean (except maybe for the Willock comment).

Although i'm skeptical. BUT IF the meeting indeed took place then, can it be: "Do we still go for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang/Marco Reus (second option) in case Benzema (first option) doesn't come through."
