Now that the first ever Arsenal Report AMA is over, I thought I'd share some thoughts.

First of all: Wow! What a great event! I've seen some Q&A's but they can't comete at all to what you have to offer with the format here on Arsenal Report. At least when the interview subject (could you call it that?) goes as far as Danny Karbassiyoon did to give lengthy and intriguing answers! But there is always room for improvement:

  • There should be a field (right below the original post, but before the comments IMO) where answered questions get listed in the order they are answered. Tonight I was strolling through every page updating and looking in all the yellow fields to check if I had already read that particular reply. This is especially important when the subject of interest (still not sure about the correct term) can answer Q's in the order he/she would like (which is great BTW! Do the most relevant Q's first and fill in with trivia later to make sure the time doesn't run out)

  • There should be a notice when a new answer is posted (maybe different from the ordinary orange notice. Possibly the same red that marks a topic as AMA). This would be particularily helpfull when the suggestion above is also active. That way you can leave the topic and re-enter it when you know there is something going on.

Apart from that, thanks for a real fun evening, and DM me on Twitter if you want some suggestions to other profiles that could be asked out in future versions of Arsenal Report AMA :)

He is awesome. Every answer is interesting and it's clear he's taking the time to answer in full detail, and often in the form of a story. Perfect first AMA.

Same here, was doing my head in. I think we need to go one step further and simply order comments/questions differently in AMA threads than we do in normal threads. The order should be most recent answers at the top ordered by newest first, and underneath those should be all other comments, ordered by upvotes (+1s). In the future it should probably also be live - either pushed to your browser or auto-refreshed. Like a live blog, essentially.

I actually created a custom AMA admin page for Danny today because of the ordering being a bit weird. He didn't read through the thread like we did, he had a dashboard showing him the most upvoted comments at the top, with an answer form in each comment. All the answered ones were at the bottom and out of his way.

There should be a notice when a new answer is posted (maybe different from the ordinary orange notice. Possibly the same red that marks a topic as AMA). This would be particularily helpfull when the suggestion above is also active.

Yup, definitely. This was a good learning process. Every time we do one of these, it will improve drastically.

I will, thanks for the feedback, always helps a lot. =)

I would like to add to the positive feedback regarding AR's first AMA. Great format, easy to read, and Danny's answers weren't bad either. You've got yourself a new member because of it!

Hmm shouldn't be. If a player doesn't have a custom avatar, he just has a grey outline. I can see all of them?

I am able to see most players, except for some of the legends (see below).

Missing players

I am also unable to see the captain/expensive badges under the players (see below).

Missing badges

When there's a new post in a topic it isn't highlighted yellow anymore. It just stays the same white colour but I only notice new ones by the time someone last posted in the thread

Are you subscribed to the topic? If you haven't posted a comment, upvoted or clicked the bookmark icon in the topic, you won't get notified if new comments are posted.

If you want to be notified about everything, click the 'Auto-subscribe' button on the /discussions page. =)

The AMA system has now been revamped and updated based on feedback from the Karbassiyoon AMA. There's a new page over at /live, which will be the place to go during AMAs. As soon as the subject posts the first response, the AMA is marked as live, and /live page will then have an automatically refreshed live feed of all answers. You can also post your questions from there.

Before it goes live, it's just a normal thread as usual. As soon as the subject is done with the AMA, he/she clicks a button that locks the thread and deletes all unanswered questions (no point having them in there as they will never be answered). The thread then goes back to normal layout.

This should make it way easier to follow along in an AMA, as you won't have to keep checking the thread to see if anything has been answered. Just stay on /live and the page will auto refresh as soon as there is a new answer, you'll see it at the top.

We can test this new system a few times before the next real AMA.

The polls are fun. Can you share them on Twitter/FB after you've created them?

Also it'd be cool to have achievement badges for polls. Some ideas, just off the top of my head:

  • Created a poll
  • Created a poll with 50+ answers
  • Created a poll with 100+ answers
