Injury stats massively improved from last year, Forsythe has done wonders

Posted by Ix Techau about 9 years ago · 48 replies

Updated the Injury Room to show comparison percentages between current period (1 July to today) and the same period last season, and the numbers are astonishing. Forsythe and his team must be doing something right, as some of these numbers seem to good to be true:

  • Number of injuries have gone down to half
  • Only lost a third of the number of days we did last year
  • Avg days out per injury improved by a third
  • Much fewer injuries lasting more than a week

Only proper long-term injuries are Welbeck and Wilshere, two players we can arguably survive without for the time being. Main concerns would be losing key players like Sanchez, Coquelin, Kos, etc.

Same old story with Walcott - we should expect another big injury too as a major tournament is approaching for England next summer. He has been cursed ever since being taken to the World Cup as a kid.

A bit of a different story now for Forsythe and his injury team or shall I say the same old story... With now integral parts of the team out with not just knocks but big injuries, I'm concerned as January shopping hasn't ever yielded players of quick impact, also seems like the flow of the team suffered when Le Coq got injured and now with Cazorla out the midfield won't have the same balance that it did....oh dear maybe a late run in to get a champions league place will be on the cards again with people calling for Wengers head. Shame because it was looking good a few weeks ago!

We've been getting injuries consistently from 2008 onwards. Bad stretches of them.

Since then, we've built a new medical facility and presumably kept it all up to date, we've also brought in one of the world's best fitness coaches who helped Basti & Khedira play large & important roles in the World Cup after coming back from serious injures and doubts as to whether they'd play in the tournament.

What is the one constant in this situation? It all comes down to one man. Maybe two.

No amount of staff or infrastructure will serve to prevent injuries. Especially when players who are clearly injury prone are kept around due to the manager's fear that they might stay healthy and play well elsewhere.

The lack of depth/refusal to utilize whatever depth is available until intros force it also play a role in impeding the team's fitness.

I don't think a game off would have mattered in alexis' situation. He needed a 3 week layoff, especially with all the travel to the Americas for international duty, and he's getting just that.

If you don't count injuries to the clearly injury prone players (kosc, wils, arteta, rambo) I'm sore the numbers look fine.

I don't see how the medical staff can be blamed for many injuries, such as giroud or debuchy in 2014.

Really, the best factor to zero in on in terms of evaluating the efficacy of a medical staff is the time a player mises with an injury, but even that is so specific to the player and the manner of the injury. Also, it mattu be a bad idea to rush a player back from injury prematurely, so another relevant factor would be the prevalence of players aggravating previous injuries in the first few games back or in training.

They look fine either way. Our overall number of injuries are way down, so are the number of days lost to injury. Koscielny is injury prone, but his injuries are almost always very short stints. It's Wilshere, Theo, Rosicky and Welbeck that are the wek links in terms of injury problems. Arteta and Ramsey as well obviously, but they seem slightly more resilient than the others.
