The almighty 2016-2017 summer transfer window thread

Yarmolenko is starting to talk about Everton being a better fit form him than Barca because he wants to play regularly rather than "take selfies with Messi". Never thought he would even think about leaving, I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Unless he goes to Man Utd, Man City or Chelsea of course, then I'll claim I never really wanted him.

I can understand people want Arsene out after last year, but i dont understand how they can get away with vile insults to man who represent 20 years of history for this club.

Do you ask the manager to find investments of billions like City and Chelsea have?

Well everyone are in the same boat. Alex Ferguson was fine in the Chelsea era, and fucking Leicester won the league despite not even spending 10% of what Arsenal spent...so although I get the money argument it doesn't really hold up as an absolute blocker for a good enough manager.

In my opinion the way Wenger has attempted to challenge for the title with financial restraints has been extremely naive. We can't beat Chelsea/ManC with money, so why are we still trying to play on their terms. What Atletico and Leicester are doing is trying to beat the money with clever tactics, but for some reason Wenger thinks he can keep playing dominating football filled with free positions despite not having the means to do so.

What should have happened is that Arsenal, faced against rivals who can vastly outspend, should have adopted a different strategy on the pitch to make up for the difference in spend.

Wenger, being the brilliant manager you think he is, should have identified this early on. My hindsight should be his foresight.

So according to my metrics, he has been a naive and frankly mediocre manager for the last ten years. And I think we would have performed much better in this barren period with a less naive manager.

So you'd be happy to win the league once per 2016 years like Leicester and then getting relegated, promoted, mid table, relegated etc. Ok then.

SAF was an anomaly. And United were 100x richer than us back then.

I wanted to call him a nonce but unfortunately he is about 6 foot 3 and I'm about 5'10Wouldn't have been a good decision

You chickened out.... He's a 6,3 twat. I would have taken him on no matter what.

Leave the money on side, and last 10 years. I ask you, how and why Arsene lost the players last year, we started with some fantastic football, with great consistency, and then everything went downhill like in some shit cheap horror movie. The football was awful, players were awful they didn't respond to anything. We had some shit luck in years before, our weak squads was destroyed from injuries and awful referee decisions, but this year we had the squad the momentum the opportunity to get the title, and we failed miserably. Someone need to take responsibility, If leaving is not option ( and i hope is not) apology and some kind of acknowledgment for the situation we are, and change in the approach should be mandatory. Lets see what we gonna do after the EURO 2016, but knowing Arsene we wont see shift. Its sad because he is building everything for someone else to gather the harvest.

Missing the point, as usual. Leicester proved last season that money isn't the only variable that matters. By adopting their tactics to suit both their players and the league they're playing in, they managed to win the title. In the same period Wenger was still sticking stubbornly to playing like Real Madrid but having the finances of Portsmouth. Why? Either he's naive or he's incompetent. Which one is worse?

SAF was an anomaly. And United were 100x richer than us back then.

...we kept pace with Man Utd up until Chelsea became rich. After that Man Utd stayed world class and Arsenal fell apart. We can blame stadium builds all we want, but the fact remains: clever tactics both on and off the pitch would have kept us fighting for the title in that period. Money is not everything.

I think we are adjusting tactics more these days, but alarmingly only for the "big" teams. We still think we can just show up to smaller teams and walk away with three points playing the same way.

So we managed to be toe to toe with United without clever tactics right? We were using some magic I suppose?

Well we were playing a solid 4-4-2 at the time, with world class players. When you have world class players you can get away with basic tactics. Problem is that Wenger was without world class players for a decade but he still insisted on playing tactics designed for world class players. Full creative freedom in a possession-based system is not really the best approach when you have mediocre players...which again brings me back to my point: he's been naive for a very long time now.

It's simple: when you don't have world class players at your disposal, you have to become more clever in the tactical department. Wenger never adapted his tactics to fit the level of his players, even stubbornly claiming in the late noughties that, and I'm paraphrasing, "they have to deal with us" when asked on several occasions about how he's going to deal with opposition teams of all qualities.

Not even the most brainwashed Wenger supporter could possibly think that playing the same formation and tactics against Sheffield Wednesday and then Barcelona will result in the same outcome. But that is what Wenger does...he decides on a shape, tells everyone to have full creative freedom and then hope for the best. Do you think that's what Simeone does? Do you think that's what Klopp did at Dortmund? Do you think that's what Ranieri does at Leicester? No. They know they don't have the individual quality like-for-like to compete, so they look to other areas instead.

Only have to look at before Pep's Barca & post-Pep Barca to see how football evolved. Tiki Taka died and Jupp Heynckes' ruled supreme
