Buying Ozil was a mistake

Posted by TopTopQuality over 9 years ago · 126 replies

Ozil was a last minute panic buy by Wenger. A player in a position we didn't need to strengthen. He isn't playing to his best ability at Arsenal either. His main strength is through balls to fast runners, like it was with CR7. There are no such players at Arsenal except Walcott, who rarely plays. You can quote stats all you like about his key passes. In this Arsenal team Ramsey, Sanchez, Cazorla would've had better stats and a much better overall contribution than Ozil if they played as N10. I can name at least 3 players at Arsenal who would be better as No10 -

Ramsey - he's creative, a goal scorer, much better defensively, much better work rate,

Sanchez - well, he shits all over Ozil

Cazorla - he's already done it before and saved our asses in his first season at Arsenal

Everyone had a hard on anticipating a partnership between Sanchez and Ozil. But there isn't one (except maybe that goal vs Reading I think, in FA cup). Sanchez isn't really a winger. He's better suited to No10 position. If he played as a shadow striker behind Giroud he'd be scoring 30+ goals and getting 20+ assists per season.

If there was a bid of £40-50m for Ozil I'd sell him in a heart beat. And get a proper winger, be it Pedro, or even freaking Draxler, and have some money left over.

I remember when Cazorla was playing on the wing I was saying he'd be much better in central midfield. Everyone rolled their eyes. Even after Cazorla had an excellent game in that position against some Turkish club in CL. It's the sheepish mentality of many Arsenal fans, they just go into denial. Plus flogging Ozil would de congest the midfield a bit. If Sanchez and Ramsey were rotating in No10, Wishere would be getting more game time rotating with Cazorla in CM.

I know most would say something like "YOU'RE CLUELESS, OZIL IS WORLD CLASS". But they'd be the clueless ones, just a bunch of brainwashed puppets.

Besides no one's denying Ozil's quality, he's just not well suited to this Arsenal team. Plus we have better players than him.

Hahahahahahhaahahahahahahahahahah you cunt

Yeah, he scored from 3 yards out, the goal was gaping but he shot at Neur. The credit for that goal should go to Bellerin, not Ozil.

This even further proves you desperation.

Apart from the goal Ozil was wearing his invisibility cloak s usual.

Alarmingly Sanchez was very poor. Wenger says he's jaded, so I hope he's rested the next game.

Eh no, Neuer was practically in god mode yesterday, even Messi would have shot "at" him.

The credit for that goal should go to Bellerin, not Ozil.

Make up your mind. Now you're saying credit should go to the one who created the chance in the first place, not the finisher. Well, that's what Özil does day in and day out: creates chances.

Alarmingly Sanchez was very poor.

He had two poor decisions in a game full of hundreds of them. Would hardly call that "very poor". Bayern were pressing and flooding the midfield, and Sanchez mistakenly passed into the centre of the pitch twice, but other than that he was great as always.

Ozil today went to NUMBER 1 in the all time Premier League rankings for assists per game. Not bad for a mistake, heh?

Truth is he has been fantastic since day 1, building on a stunning debut and just continuing to play the same for over 2 seasons now. Now that the uneducated English football media (and fans) are waking up to what real talent is there are some trying to make out that he has somehow changed. In fact, he has not. He has always been brilliant for Arsenal.

Where are these stats? Thought he was brilliant today, even defensively. A couple of dodgy passes, but then everyone had a few of those, even Nacho.

Quite amazing for a mistake and a player 'knicking a living' as the media tells us. Goes to show that you should never listent to the biased media or you may end up making a fool of yourself on forums, like the OP has done here :)

Having the highest games-per-assist rate in Premier League history is a mind-blowing stat, considering that Mesut Özil has very little control of whether or not a key pass or chance created turns into an assist or not - that is up to the goalscorer. And it is especially mind-blowing because of the fact that Arsenal haven't been the highest scoring team for a long time, and haven't had a so-called "world class striker" since Henry.

So he is now the most prolific assister in Premier League history, despite playing in a team with half the resources of Man City and Chelsea, despite having no efficient strikers around him, and despite apparently being a £42.4m flop.

Perhaps it's time to lock this thread seeing as it's not only factually incorrect but now also clinically insane to call Mesut Özil anything other than the best #10 playmaker in the world..

Well he's shit now.

But imagine if giroud managed to not fluff one in every 5 sitter mesut has created for him.

Our team setup made him look better than he was. But since this thread is not about that snake..lets enjoy having Ozil at Arsenal...

Sorry but I'm not having this revisionist view. van Persie was a genius and carried our worst teams under Wenger to the top four. He is a massive cunt but his technique was up there with some of the best Arsenal have ever had. Isn't he relatively high up in our highest goalscorers too?

Van Persie was alright, but let's not pretend he carried anyone, except for that final season before moving to Man Utd.

Before that he was similar to Giroud. Good squad player at 0.41 goals per game before that final season. Giroud's Arsenal record is currently 0.43 goals per game, so he's even slightly above Van Persie in that respect. For comparison, Henry's number is 0.61 goals per game.

Then keep in mind that before that final season he only averaged about 22 apperances in the Premier League every season. Rest of the fixtures were spent in the injury room.

So no, I definitely do not agree Van Persie carried anyone.

RvP was world class in terms of talent in my view but he never consistently reached the world class level because of injuries. He never really got a long run of games until the last couple of years, at which time he proved himself. Over the course of his whole career at Arsenal he can only really go down as average to good. Certainly not a great.

As for Ozil I think the statement that only the insane would now criticize him is about right, though I would add that its also a case that those maintaining a position that he is anything but world class and a huge success are doing it because they are so embarrassed and can't bring themselves to admit their foolishness. Its the same with pundits like Neville, Henry and Scholes. NOW they say he is great and are trying to make out he has completely changed his game - when in fact he has not. They have just been educated a bit more by watching him.
