Buying Ozil was a mistake

Posted by TopTopQuality over 9 years ago · 126 replies

Ozil was a last minute panic buy by Wenger. A player in a position we didn't need to strengthen. He isn't playing to his best ability at Arsenal either. His main strength is through balls to fast runners, like it was with CR7. There are no such players at Arsenal except Walcott, who rarely plays. You can quote stats all you like about his key passes. In this Arsenal team Ramsey, Sanchez, Cazorla would've had better stats and a much better overall contribution than Ozil if they played as N10. I can name at least 3 players at Arsenal who would be better as No10 -

Ramsey - he's creative, a goal scorer, much better defensively, much better work rate,

Sanchez - well, he shits all over Ozil

Cazorla - he's already done it before and saved our asses in his first season at Arsenal

Everyone had a hard on anticipating a partnership between Sanchez and Ozil. But there isn't one (except maybe that goal vs Reading I think, in FA cup). Sanchez isn't really a winger. He's better suited to No10 position. If he played as a shadow striker behind Giroud he'd be scoring 30+ goals and getting 20+ assists per season.

If there was a bid of £40-50m for Ozil I'd sell him in a heart beat. And get a proper winger, be it Pedro, or even freaking Draxler, and have some money left over.

I remember when Cazorla was playing on the wing I was saying he'd be much better in central midfield. Everyone rolled their eyes. Even after Cazorla had an excellent game in that position against some Turkish club in CL. It's the sheepish mentality of many Arsenal fans, they just go into denial. Plus flogging Ozil would de congest the midfield a bit. If Sanchez and Ramsey were rotating in No10, Wishere would be getting more game time rotating with Cazorla in CM.

I know most would say something like "YOU'RE CLUELESS, OZIL IS WORLD CLASS". But they'd be the clueless ones, just a bunch of brainwashed puppets.

Besides no one's denying Ozil's quality, he's just not well suited to this Arsenal team. Plus we have better players than him.

Him and Ozil have most chances created in Europe. Santi has been a brilliant player for us and a big part in our turnaround of results against the big teams.

This year Ozil is a long way ahead of Santi. 54 vs 35 in chances created and 10 vs 3 on assists.

I think Santi has struggled this year in a few games - primarlity because he gives the ball away in very dangerous posiitons far too regularly. Good player indeed, but not at the very top level of a player like Ozil (but then few are)

One is Deep Lying playmaker with more defensive duties the other is the best CAM in the world, its not Santi job to assist(if he do great). He had one bad game, and people jump on him. One of best performer on the position he occupy now, and most consistent player in our team this year(and the year before). Not sure from where you pulled the struggle part.

12 games in a row now with a goal or assist from Ozil. What a magnificent player - best in his position in the world.

13th assist of the season for Ozil and 13 games in a row with goal or assist.

still 'knicking a living' I wonder? Still a mistake to buy him? I think not. Apologies from press and TV pundits are thin on the ground though. Likewise the OP.

Moyes has spent the same amount we spent on Özil as he did for Fellaini in his career

His opinion means fuck all

I'm glad he's playing well now.

But it doesn't change the fact that he was shite for 2 seasons and only now coming good.

So, if you can't understand this, you all owe me an apology for being dumb.

Lol - somebody can't admit that they were wrong, badly wrong. Instead of apologising, doubling down seems to be the order of the day. Not surprised.

I guess it wasn't such a big mistake to buy him after all? Even if you are deluded enough to think his first two seasons were 'shit'

Time to bump this thread again. 16 assists now. Created 10 chances in one game tonight. Averaging 4.4 chances every game - best in the league

30 assists in 2 and a half seasons - the best ever in PL history over the first 3 full seasons and he still has 19 games to go this year.

4 more to equal Henry's single season record.

What a terrible mistake it was signing him :) As the OP says we should have sold him and bought Pedro LOLOLOLOLOL

Pretty much carrying the team right now. Mark Ozil out of the game, and you stop Arsenal. Even against Southampton he created 60% of our shots on goal

Are you retarded or what? Do I need to keep repeating myself over and over. If you didn't get it the first time - I'll write it again.

He was shit for 2 seasons and now he's playing very well. And I'm glad he's improve so much.

All the past criticism still applies to his past.

Got it? Next time you write this kind of crap here, I'll just copy and paste this post.

He was shit for 2 seasons

...but he wasn't though. He had similar numbers overall, it's just that some people couldn't see the brilliance until now. Look at this clip from 2014. Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher are whining about Özil, being indecisive and unsure of his brilliance. But if you actually look at the clip you'll see that Özil is doing exactly the same stuff now that he was then. Nothing in his game has changed.

So no, he hasn't been shit, ever. He had one period where he wasn't as effective, because Wenger did his usual 'play-a-cm-on-the-flank', but shit? Come on. At #10 he's done the same thing every game since he got here, the only thing that has changed is public opinion and people discovering his brilliance.

What IX said. Özil play same, team is more effective and his game bring results. Yes, this year he may be bit better statistically, and i'm sure he improved as player, saying he was shit for last 2 years and now praise him for the same thing he did in those years make me wonder if you are beyond saving.
